Why Women’s Sports Matter
Updated: May 3
I didn’t grow up thinking about visibility or media coverage or any of the bigger conversations around women’s sports. I just knew what I was watching felt real. The energy, the competitiveness, the emotion. It was all there.
And if you’ve ever sat courtside or really paid attention, you can feel it too. There’s no lack of talent. No lack of effort. Definitely no lack of stories.
But for a long time, there has been a lack of consistent visibility.
That’s the part that stuck with me. Not because women’s sports are missing something, but because they’ve been overlooked in ways that don’t match what’s actually happening on the court.
The more I thought about it, the more I realized something simple. If something matters to you, you don’t wait for someone else to show up for it. You show up yourself.
That’s where this started for me.
Not as an expert or someone who has everything figured out, but as someone who wants to contribute in a real way.
Photography became that way.
It allows me to capture moments that might otherwise be missed and highlight the intensity, focus, and small details that don’t always make the highlight reels. At the same time, it’s a way for me to build something of my own. Something intentional. Something consistent. Something that reflects what I see when I watch the game.
This season, I’m starting from the ground up. Learning, shooting, and figuring it out as I go, but doing it with purpose.
Because women’s sports don’t need to be proven. They need to be seen.
And I want to be part of that.
If you’ve been watching too, I’d love to know what keeps you coming back to women’s sports.
